Cristina Pérez Fernández, the illustrator who already drew with 5 years and loves digital

Cristina Pérez Fernández was born in Almería in March 1989.The primary studies did them at the Virgen del Mar College and then the bachelor ended in the Jesuitinas.With five years they discover the perthes disease that produces the destruction of part of the femur head bone.He wore an apparatus in one leg and had to spend a long season at rest.That caused him to start in the drawing.“From a very young age I feel the impulse to draw, but when I discover the painting, I realize that it is the great love of my life.I was 11 years old.I did oil painting and since then I have not left it, ”he says.

I wanted to make beautiful arts but my family said that being of sciences that he studied Fine Arts.“I was a girl who got very good grades, and they wanted me to do chemistry.But I wanted to make beautiful arts ".This vocation for color and textures leads her to graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Granada.

It is precisely in an exchange with the Pontifical Javeriana University of Bogotá in Colombia, when it is defined as an artist between traditional and digital art, betting on the fusion of disciplines and the experimentation of materials.Fabric, thread, photography and word as expressive resource are usually part of their creations, which stand out for their chromatic wealth, intensity and gestures.This trip would mark a before and then in your life.“I loved that university where I spent 11 months, and I was about to stay.I cried a lot when I was at the airport to come to Spain.It was something wonderful and that marked my life a lot.I was lucky and I met many people ".

“I return to Granada and I begin my final career project called Unatola and the labyrinth of the houses, an enlightened album that has been varying over time."With the passage of time this project whose text and illustrations are mine has changed".The illustrator explains where the name of Unatola comes from.“Being little I liked the cookies Maria and as I was always bad about the stomach because I couldn't eat many.I remember a scene where my mother was in the kitchen and did nothing more than ask for a tola, and referred to a single one, a cookie alone ”.Hence, the protagonist of that enlightened album was called Unatola.

In that story, Cristina Pérez tells how the protagonist loses her house.“He is sad, and throughout the story he meets different people, but in the end he realizes that what he thought had lost it carried inside.It is a personal search and overcoming.That idea arose in 2012 ".

In Colombia I discovered my technique, which is on horseback between the traditional and the digital."I really like digital and I take many hours.In that work there is paint, photography, I use authentic fabric, the forests are made of cardboard.It is a technique that combines everything ".

Study the upper clothing modeling cycle at the Almería School of Art in 2016 and 2017 in order to incorporate into its creative universe, another of its great passions: the fashion design.“I was with pure thin and I was great with her.I learned a lot and we had a great time.I started making rag dolls and then I loved to make clothes.I really like sewing, because my grandmothers always sewed ".

Cristina is an illustrator who is very clear about her work."When they propose to illustrate a book I have very clear one thing, the text has to inspire me, and if I like the text, the illustrations come out alone".

In his last year of the cycle, he receives the Award of Plastic Arts and Design of Andalusia for his final project Macondo Fusion in the Category of Modelism of clothing.Participate in collective exhibitions with the Almeria Cultural Association La Duna Comic.

He has currently published two illustrated albums, one on his own, Unatola and the labyrinth of the houses and Mardeluna, written by Rosa Romeral Tejera, Madrid writer and illustrated by Cristina, this beautiful story, inspired by the rights of children, was funded byCrowdfunding last July.

He already works on his own project as an illustrator in a work where the protagonist is a cat."I will make the illustrations and my partner Rosa Romeral Tejera will make the text, we are the dynamic duo," he adds.
