Although LG has closed its mobile division last month, it continues to show muscle in other aspects where it has been a reference in the market in Spain for years. Beyond televisions, another of LG's great references are household appliances, a market division in which the brand has stood out for innovation and its latest product is a great example of this.

The LG Vapor Cleaner Styler, from the outside it may seem like a fridge from the future, however, it is the dream that many of us have wanted: a cupboard that doubles as a dry cleaner at home. Being able to, for example, wear a shirt, return it to the closet and have it clean and ironed the next day.

Yes, as you read. We are facing a device that surprises when you see it because it does not look like a wardrobe due to its finishes and external screen. But even with that, it has the ability to take care of our clothes by sanitizing them, drying them, refreshing them and even ironing them.

After testing it for 15 days, the conclusion is simple: the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler is the type of device that you don't know you need until you try it, becoming an almost essential element for certain common situations in our home. Of course, it is not for everyone due to its dimensions as well as its price, which is around 1,500 euros, depending on the finish.

Elegant and refined design

Beyond the finish and the price, the other fundamental element before buying it is its design. In our case we have tried the mirror finish, but we have had to look for almost the only hole in the house in which it would fit.

It has dimensions of 44.5 centimeters wide, a height of 185 centimeters and a depth of 58.5 centimeters. I mean, it doesn't fit anywhere. We would have liked it to be a little wider, in order to increase capacity. Of course, it will only do a plug to put it to work.

The Cleaner Styler has two ways to interact with it: with integrated buttons on the front panel or with the application of our smartphone. The mirror finish is fine to see in it once we have dressed, but it has the counterpart that the touch buttons on the front are not well distinguished until they are turned on. To do so, we will have to click on the power button and all the buttons will light up.

These buttons together with the design make it look like a state-of-the-art fridge on the outside, but on the inside it also gives a certain air of a refrigerator. Well, we will have two main sections that separate the garment module and the water storage module.

The device comes with two hangers that we can hang from the upper bar, while on the door we will have a special hanger for lower garments such as pants. Both the top hangers and the front of the wardrobe have a way to remove wrinkles from our clothes.

In the lower part we find a shelf that we can remove and, in addition, the water tank and the steam tank. We can add hangers on our own, although we will have to monitor their material. For example, wood could deteriorate over time due to internal steam generation.

In general, this LG Vapor Cleaner has seemed to us to be very well designed; it is elegant, sober and above all it integrates with our home. We recommend buying the white version, since although the mirror version is more refined, it is more durable for day to day use.

An ingenious operation

Before we start talking about the operation of the LG steam closet, we must bear in mind that this device does not replace the basic cleaning equipment of any home. That is, it won't wash your clothes like a washing machine and it won't dry entire batches of clothes like a dryer. It is more of a clothing care accessory than a cleaning appliance.

The LG Vapor Cleaner Styler uses a heat pump called an Inverter Heating Pump that generates TrueSteam vapor. Depending on the type of function that we assign to the wardrobe, this technology will be used in one way or another. The heat pump will take care of drying the clothes, and the steam will clean and remove odors from them without needing a special wash. Again, this does not wash the clothes as such, but it does sanitize them without chemicals. That is to say, it does not clean stains but it does eliminate odors and we will have clothes as good as new if they have little use.

For example, in the case of sanitizing, the LG Vapor Cleaner will create a temperature inside it that will range between 60 and 62 degrees. This eliminates 99.99% of bacteria, allergens and viruses, including the human coronavirus. It also does so without any need for user interaction and without chemicals.

One of the great advantages of the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler and its main axis of operation consists of the tanks located in the lower part. Specifically, two: one collects the water generated by the use of steam and the other is the one that supplies the water to the device. That is, we do not need a constant outlet to the water in our house.

The system is very ingenious, since to make the cabinet work we will simply have to fill the water tank and periodically empty the steam tank. The waste water generated by the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler is not drinkable, but can be used for other tasks such as scrubbing, watering plants, or cleaning surfaces. It is important not to fill the water tank with manipulated liquid of any kind (chemicals or additives of any kind).

Several details must be taken into account when using the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler. LG recommends the introduction of up to 4 garments in the wardrobe. Due to its dimensions, we can place up to 3 garments on the hooks for the hangers, two more on the shelf that we can remove and one on the door hanger. This already makes it clear that we will not be able to dry an entire laundry as we would in a standard dryer.

We cannot just leave the clothes lying in the closet. First, there are garments that can suffer because they are not compatible with air drying, so we will have to check their labels as much as possible. Second, hanging garments must have buttons and zippers closed. Finally, the clothes on the shelf must be folded.

Inside the cabinet there are filters for dust and some small cracks in which we can include a slot with odor wipes so that, when steaming clothes, we give them a pleasant smell. We close the door, choose the mode from the touch panel or from the smartphone and wait.

The time it takes will depend entirely on the mode and the process that the cabinet is performing. Normally, the time will vary from 20 minutes to 2 hours in the case of sanitization.

Before starting the program, the cabinet will tell us how long it will take to complete it. It is important that if we start the drying or sanitizing process, we remove the hangers, both included and those that we put in, to prevent them from colliding inside with movement and making noise.

Although it is true that the result of removing wrinkles from clothes has not completely convinced us, the rest of the modes have behaved excellently. The soda has done its job of removing bad odors from garments that would otherwise have required more thorough cleaning, wasting energy.

Drying also works excellently, it allows you to have a few garments ready for the next few days in a very short time. It is ideal in those moments in which we need to quickly dry certain types of clothing to use them as soon as possible, especially making use of the aforementioned delay start.

Regarding sanitation, the detail of the human coronavirus must be noted. Its effectiveness refers to the bacteria of the human coronavirus 229E (that is, that of the common cold). In theory it would work with SARS-CoV, it does not have the corresponding certification, as is the case with your connected mask.

Lastly, noise is not a problem at all. It is true that depending on the mode we will hear more or less the rumble of the vibrations of the cabinet and the heat pump taking effect, but at no time will it reach annoying or worrying noise levels. Still, it has a specific mode for silent care at night.

Beyond clothes, the other great point in favor of the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler is its ability to dehumidify a room. It has the ability to dehumidify the room where it is installed in a time that ranges between 2 and 4 hours. In this way, it can also be the perfect ally for our dressing room.

I buy it?

As we have already mentioned, this cabinet will not make you throw your washer or dryer in the trash, far from it. He doesn't pretend to either. It seeks to be a complement to the cleaning of our clothes, focusing on their care. It is not until you try it that you do not feel that you need it, always being aware of its limitations.

Because if; It offers very good results in terms of sanitization or drying, but its strong point is in the most specific situations. This is attested to by their manners; drying for rain, warming coats, etc. If we are looking for a perfect ironing or, failing that, a perfect refreshment from the dry cleaners, we will not find it. But it will be your greatest ally in those moments when you need to eliminate bacteria from your clothes or dry your most important garments.

In short, the LG Vapor Cleaner Styler is the perfect complement to avoid large loads of laundry (sometimes inefficient) and that is the first step towards the perfect appliance that we will have in all homes in the near future.
