That this clean-smelling baby cologne with notes of neroli and bergamot is causing a stir in the few days it has been on sale in Spain confirms many things. And not only because Parisians use it as a perfume -that always adds up-, but because of the emotional connotations that a fresh baby cologne has to become a beauty staple for many women. It's called Enfance, it's just arrived at Laconicum, it has citrus notes -something that makes it quite different from other more powdery classic baby perfumes- and it's made with 99% ingredients of natural origin. As confirmed by Anabel Vázquez, co-founder of Laconicum, judging by the reception it is having - "Within a few hours of launching a new order had to be placed and that is always a clue about interest" -, she promises to follow in the wake of success of other colonies/children's perfumes that triumph in Spain. In the same way that Bontibú frequently hangs the sold out sign; that Baby Cologne by Suavinex becomes the summer perfume of many Spanish women -to the sales data we refer-, and that Petits et Mamans by Bvlgari continues to be one of the fetish perfumes of many stylists, Enfance could have a similar trajectory.
The rage for baby perfumes and their potential in the market goes back a long way, especially in other countries such as the United States. Back in 1988, The Chicago Tribune analyzed how the arrival of Givenchy's legendary Tartine et Chocolat at the FAO Schwarz store in New York reported revenues of more than $40,000 in one week. Things have changed a lot since then. And not only because there are many fashion and beauty firms that have already explored the vein of children's perfumes as Givenchy did, but also because these colognes with a soft and clean aroma have become the go-to perfume for many Adults. In Spain it is happening. And more so now, when the current situation leads us to embrace memories that make us feel good. “The baby colonies have something 'back home', they are comfortable, recognizable, 'hugging'. It seems that they take the gravity out of everyday life, that they connect us with our purest and most innocent side”, explains Anabel Vázquez, who has seen how children's camps are becoming an important sales niche for Laconicum.
Are there many adult women who use baby colognes? "If we have to measure it by the number of children's colognes sold in Laconicum, we can say that thousands. Baby colognes are also compatible with other adult fragrances. They can be used after getting out of the shower, in the morning or at night, to being at home, for the first blast of aroma in the morning... and they can be completed throughout the day with other fragrances. I admit that in the last year they attract me much more than before, perhaps because they give me a certain security and calm, something what I need”, reflects Vázquez.
If we refer to the newcomer Enfance, Vázquez confirms that it can be used on clothes and pillows and that it is perfect for teleworking: “It has a sparkling effect at first that fades in a few hours. I like to reapply it throughout the day,” she concludes.
