A curvy model denounces that the industry uses "thin girls to put padding in XL suits"

Norwegian model Karoline Bjornelykke has made her complaint about an unethical practice that occurs within the world of fashion go viral. According to her account in a video that has gone viral on TikTok, some agencies are signing plus-size or 'curvy' young people for 'plus size' clothing campaigns. That is to say, tall curvy girls who move between size 40 and 46 are modeling for brands whose garments range from size 48 to 56 (from XL to 5XL). But why is this hitherto little-known practice carried out?

Bjornelykke, identified in the aforementioned social network as @coolquinn, assures that despite being thin, the fashion industry considers her a "plus size" model. She also explains how at work she has to wear clothes that are too big for her, ranging from XL to 5XL.

"As you can see, I am not that size," she emphasizes in the video, showing her figure. "So, how do they solve the problem? Well, by taking padding to work," she says, showing the camera a bag from which she extracts several rounded pieces of foam to place them all over her body.

Karoline explains that if her outfit doesn't fit her, she pins it up behind her. "So if the clothes look great from the front, chances are they'll look really bad from the back," she says.

an impossible beauty

The explanation for this way of acting in fashion is, according to her, "because clothing brands want the neck and face to be seen really thin and sharp", explains the young woman. "This creates not only unrealistic beauty standards, but actually impossible ones," she concludes.

To put an end to the video of her denouncing her, Karoline claims that the industry actually uses 'plus size' models "because there are so many beautiful plus size women out there."

Other cases

The clip in question has been played hundreds of thousands of times and has had a lot of repercussion. Some people who have commented on it assure that they are also models and that they have also experienced this situation. "I have exactly the same filler game as you," says a certain Kalison Nix. For her part, another girl, Daisy Gray, explains that "they also use Photoshop on thin women to make them look bigger in swimsuits, because they don't want cellulite, love handles, or see the suits stretched out, but they still want the 'shape' of a plus size woman.
