Christmas is approaching and with fewer health restrictions than the previous year, the Municipal Delegations installed in the most remote territories of the urban center of the Coquimbo commune, have begun to organize and develop various cultural and family entertainment activities, so that children and girls, can live and enjoy the Christmas spirit in their neighborhoods.
With limited capacity and preventive measures to avoid contagion by Covid-19, the towns of Tongoy, the rural area of the Cordillera and the Upper Part of Coquimbo, have extended social and artistic actions to the community and have given local entrepreneurs a space to make their work visible and take advantage of this time of year to boost their businesses.
In Tongoy, the celebrations began last Sunday, where Teraphy Motor IV Region gave a Christmas afternoon to boys and girls in the resort's Plaza Joven. There the little ones received treats, shared with the Old Man Easter and enjoyed motorcycle rides through the sector.
Recreational activities will continue next week with an entertaining Christmas Party to be held on Tuesday, December 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tongoy Stadium. In the enclosure, the neighborhood associations of the spa will have their stand and the boys and girls previously registered will receive their gift and bag of goodies.
The activity, open to the entire community, includes a children's show, trampolines and inflatable games, an initiative that will also be replicated on Wednesday the 22nd in the town of Puerto Aldea.
“We are very happy to be able to carry out these types of activities that encourage citizen participation and invite the community to meet and share at this time of year. Our children are the happiest and that for us is the best retribution, that Christmas reaches every corner of our spa”, said Gonzalo Pardo Municipal Delegate of Tongoy.
From the Delegation, local entrepreneurship has also been supported with the realization of the Christmas Fair on Barnes Avenue with Punta Arenas Street. Bazaar items, packages and toys, are part of what families can find in this productive space, which will work until December 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The Rural Cordillera area is not far behind with Christmas activities. Due to the extension of the territory, this year, neighborhood Christmas fairs were scheduled in the towns of Tambillos, Las Barrancas, El Peñón, Quebrada de Martínez and Cruz de Caña. A space that families are taking advantage of to show and market their products, which will be in operation until December 24.
To bring a message of joy, love and hope, the Municipal Delegation also held a colorful caravan this Friday through 8 towns in the sector (Santa Elena, Cobrela, Cerrillos, Nueva Vida, Las Barrancas, Las Cardas, El Peñón and Tres Villas) , where families, from their homes, enjoyed the carols of the Christmas choir and the visit of the Old Man and his friends.
“Christmas is a celebration that unites the family and that boys and girls enjoy year after year. In 2020, the health situation restricted several of these activities and this year we wanted to resume them to provide our neighbors in the rural sector with spaces for recreation, leisure and instances of solidarity on this significant date,” said Cesar Hernández, Rural Municipal Delegate.
As the Delegate comments, solidarity will come from the hand of the "Christmas Hanger", an initiative that will take place next week and with which they seek to give a more social meaning to this celebration, inviting the local community to donate clothes, shoes or toys in good condition, so that another person who needs it can take it, without money or commitments involved.
Clothes, shoes and toys in good condition, will be received from December 20 to 23 at the Rural Municipal Delegation, located in Santa Filomena S/N (Former rural post), from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In the Upper Part, as part of the community work that the Municipal Delegation has undertaken with the neighborhood organizations of the sector, a Christmas concert was carried out by the Instrumental Band "Los Mena", they presented a selection of Christmas carols in the Sol del Mar Neighborhood Association.
