SANTANDER, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, today expressed his support for the "fair" demands of the Civil Guard Professional Justice Association (JUCIL) during the meeting he held at the Government headquarters with his Secretary General , Ernesto Vilariño, and other members of the collective.
The president has joined the demand for more troops assigned to Cantabria to solve the current "security deficit" that exists in the region because "important positions are not being covered."
In his opinion, "there is a huge lack of means" that causes situations such as those experienced in summer in certain coastal areas that see their population multiply, to which is added another determining factor such as the territorial dispersion of the Community.
On the other hand, he has pointed out that the means available to the civil guards are either "very outdated", with cars that exceed 300,000 kilometers and constantly break down, or are not enough, as is the case of bulletproof vests .
Finally, it has demanded a real salary equalization with respect to other regional police forces with which there are still significant differences, despite the salary increase recently achieved.
"I fully share the association's claims, security is one of the vital issues for citizens", stated the president, who would like the Ministry of the Interior to further value the importance of Civil Guard, a body that in Cantabria "is loved, appreciated and needed".
For his part, Ernesto Vilariño, recently assigned to the San Vicente de la Barquera barracks, thanked Revilla for his support and quantified between 120 and 150 the number of agents that the Autonomous Community currently needs to offer a "safety service in conditions".
In addition to the age of the vehicles and the vests, some of them "expired", Vilariño has denounced that there are positions that can only be open one day a week due to lack of personnel or that the "mixed patrols" of troops of different positions "reduce effectiveness" to the service, among other matters.
Regarding salaries, he regretted that the approved increase is not enough for a complete comparison with other State bodies, with differences that, in some cases, can reach 600 euros.
JUCIL was created in 2018 with the aim of defending the interests and rights of Civil Guard agents before the institutions. It arose within JUSAPOL, the collective of police and civil guards from all over Spain that demands salary equality with the rest of the regional police forces.
Currently, it has more than 12,000 affiliates and representatives throughout the national territory. Among the proposals of the organization are, in addition to salary equalization, the defense of police work and the improvement of the working conditions of the civil guards.
