Her name is Priya Tiwari, a 37-year-old woman who lives in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, and who discovered how a walking routine could change her life.

Since she got married, her weight had increased, and over the years her extra kilos became a real health problem that she had to deal with.

At first, Priya recalls in her story, it was more of an aesthetic problem. She had a hard time finding clothes in her size and over time, her closet turned its back on her. Finally, the problem was more than her and she became a priority in her health, when she was diagnosed with a thyroid condition.

With the first tests and the very high percentage of body fat that she had accumulated, she Tiwari decided to turn her life around. Thus, and just a year later, she has achieved a radical change.

Priya weighed 83 kilos, which for her height of 1.65cm was clearly excessive. But in just 14 months, and with a lot of willpower, she was able to reduce her weight by 40 pounds.

“I did not take a magic pill, but I had to work hard to get it,” the woman tells the Times of India, explaining how she had contacted different experts in nutrition and endocrinology.

Her first step was to change the way she fed herself. Her diet went from chaotic to structured, incorporating all kinds of healthy foods.

Her breakfasts were light, with apple juice and an omelette without a yolk. Meals, based on vegetables, rice, pasta, salads... And for dinner, high protein content, with foods such as soy, chicken, cheese and whole wheat bread without yeast.

But without a doubt, the change came with sport: every day the woman walked for around an hour. At first she didn't notice her results, but after a while and seeing that she began to lose weight, she Priya couldn't stop.

In just 14 months she went from her initial 83 kilos to her ideal weight of 65. Today, she continues with her healthy eating and exercise habits, and assures that she wants her son to "feel proud of her mother."

a health issue

"You lose confidence and you can expose yourself to depression," she recalled, referring not only to her physical health, but also to her mental health, confessing episodes of anxiety and depression. And it is that many times the weight hides or conditions certain problems of self-esteem and self-image.

"Drink plenty of water, walk an hour every day and learn to say 'no' to unhealthy food", are the three secrets that Priya has underpinned in her life and that for her have been, and are, the key to staying healthy and enjoy your family.
