Vaginal infections, a common condition in women
Ad

One of the most common reasons why women attend the gynecological consultation is vaginal infections.

In vaginal infection or vaginitis, there is an inflammatory condition in the vagina due to various etiologies, not necessarily the product of sexual intercourse as is generally believed.

Vaginal infections depend on the pathogenic organism that causes them, these can be: parasites, fungi and bacteria.

According to Dr. Ricardo Ramírez, gynecologist-obstetrician, of the Local Primary Health Care Unit (Ulaps), "Lastenia Canto Solís", most of the time, except for trichomonas, vaginal infections are not sexually transmitted diseases, many of them are due to the change in the normal environment of the vagina.

When there is a change in the pH of the vagina, this encourages the bacteria or fungus that is causing the infection to proliferate and ultimately cause symptoms.

The specialist highlights the factors that result in a vaginal infection, for example:

Among the disorders generated by parasites, fungi, bacteria most observed in the gynecology consultation is:

To avoid the recurrence of vaginitis that causes so much discomfort in patients, Dr. Ramírez recommends: trying to maintain adequate hygiene in the vaginal area; if you are going to use intimate soaps, make sure they are neutral, without much aroma or perfume; wear cotton underwear, it is cool and prevents the genital area from getting wet.

He warned that if the repetition of infections is continuous, the ideal is to perform other studies to rule out an alteration in glycemia (diabetes) or some other disease that is lowering the defenses and producing changes in the pH of the vagina.

However, he points out the doctor, that hormonal changes, even a new contraceptive causes a vaginal infection.
