With a beard, you conquer more. Bearded men are considered more masculine and attractive than those who shave, according to a recent study by scientists Barnaby Dixon and Robert Brooks of the University of South Wales and collected by the journal Evolution & Human Behaviour. A 10-day beard causes women to see the man in question much more attractive. In contrast, clean-shaven men are perceived as more docile and less masculine.
On the other hand, an investigation published in the journal Science and carried out by a team of evolutionary biologists, William Hamilton and Marlene Zuk, concluded that having a beard is a sign of good health. This association is due to the fact that facial hair has historically been a very attractive focus for parasites and infections, so wearing a beard was a symbol of strength regarding the immune system of the bearer of the beard.
The beard protects the skin of the face, it is protected, soft and hydrated since you do not have to shave every day and it does not suffer. In addition, wearing a beard is not a symbol of lack of cleanliness because having it groomed and clean is not so easy, men spend a lot of time in front of the mirror to be able to show off a nice and well-groomed beard.
Likewise, a thick beard protects from the sun's rays and reduces the risk of suffering from melanoma.
A study coordinated by Paul Vasey and Barnaby Dixson reached this conclusion. They photographed a series of participants, first bearded and then clean-shaven, showing facial expressions of anger and happiness. Later, they showed the images to a group of men of different nationalities, who judged those with beards to be stronger and have greater social prestige.
The beard is a symbol of power and prestige: King George V, Zeus, Lincoln, kings, gods, and conquerors, many of them had large beards considered to be a symbol of greatness and power.
