Freddie Mercury's cars

Freddie Mercury had a very close relationship with cars. Even though he didn't drive, he owned a lavish collection.

Freddie Mercury had a great passion for cars that he even left reflected in a song. “When I hold on to your steering wheel, all I hear is your engine”, expresses a verse of the song I'm in love of a car, a single included on the B-side of the 1975 Bohemian Rhapsody album. His link with the motor world was very special, without being a fanatic, he enjoyed the privilege of owning several luxurious cars for the time. His fanaticism was only limited to the visual sense, he didn't have many but he enjoyed them in a particular way.

The curiosity is that Freddie Mercury had no registration and he didn't know how to drive either. He had a team of three drivers who drove his distinguished fleet.

The Freddie Mercury collection included four vehicles, a tribute edition and the song that expressed “I'm in love with my car, I have a feeling for my car”.

Mercury was photographed next to the model of one of the most refined American companies of the time. Decades later, when his phenom was much older, he decided to buy a real gem, a 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.

According to the Queen frontman's inner circle, the Mercedes Benz 420 SEL was his favorite car. He did not always use it, but only in situations that deserved it: being the largest version of the model, he took advantage of its interior space to travel accompanied. Today the car is on land in London.

Mercury bought a 1981 Range Rover, a two-door SUV and convertible, through Spinney Music, the company he shared with Queen manager Jim Beech.

The first owner of it was Roger Taylor, a true car fanatic, who was in charge of making some touches.

In honor of the 65th anniversary of the birth of the musician on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania, under the name of Farrokh Bulsara, Lotus made a posthumous tribute to Freddie with a foundation by launching the Lotus Evora S Freddie Mercury Edition, a car that was auctioned for charitable being the capital collected donated to an NGO that investigated advances in the fight against HIV, the disease that caused the death of the singer.

The design of the sports car wore white clothing with red and yellow lines, typical clothing that Freddie used to wear in his shows. Two of his signatures, one on the outside and one on the inside, supported the evocation.
