The Government of the city of Seoul faces a wave of popular outrage after advising pregnant women who cook several meals for their husbands and make sure they have a clean underwear supply before going to the hospital to give birth.
This would avoid causing "discomfort" to the family, according to the government of the South Korean capital published on a website for pregnant women.
The guidelines, originally published in 2019, were eliminated last week from the website after they were made public and caused a wave of criticisms.
Until Monday afternoon, more than 20.000 people had signed a petition published on the presidential website asking that the officials responsible for the content were punished.
During the early stages of pregnancy, women were advised to hang a small size suit that they would like to use after childbirth to "motivate them" not to eat excessively or skip the exercises.
"By not postponing domestic tasks such as cleaning and washing the dishes, it will help keep the weight even without extra exercise," said the website of the information center on pregnancy and childbirth.

As the delivery date approaches, the future mother must prepare some meals for her husband, who "will not be familiar with the kitchen", and make sure she has underwear, socks, shirts and clean scarves toThey last until your wife returns from the hospital.
Similarly, it advises women to buy a hair tape "so that you do not seem scarmed, since you will not be able to wash your hair for a while".
"Avoid causing discomfort to your family checking if there is enough toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap and detergent," is indicated on the website.
South Korea faces a demographic crisis, since their birth rate descends and women face a double workload and care of children.
"The objective of the website seems to be to promote singleness and not motherhood," says the request, adding: "Does the city of Seoul consider women as public goods that give birth?"
In a statement to the AFP on Monday, the Government of the city of Seoul recognized that it had not "thoroughly reviewed" the contents before publishing them on its website."We will establish a basis for the regular inspection of the general operation to prevent this from happening again".
