The reinforcement dose against the coronavirus that was administered to the toilets at the end of 2021 has prevented two out of three from being infected with the omicron variant, and increases protection up to 63 %, 15 percentage points more than that registered in peopleThey have only received two doses.
These are the results of a study by the Valencian Research Program of the COVID-19 (PROVAVAC) vaccine, attached to the Presidency of the Generalitat, on the effectiveness of the reinforcement dose against the omicron variant, carried out to the health personnel of the department ofHealth of Alicante General Hospital during the first half of January.
In that period, the prevalence of the registered omicron variant has been 96 %, as explained by the general director of Public Analysis and Policies, Ana Berenguer, who ensures that the results of the study allow them to be hopeful in terms of increasing the protection it providesThe memory dose before the high transmissibility of the variant.
The third dose reduces both contagion and the severity of the disease, with a 73 % drop in the number of hospitalizations with respect to the worst peak recorded in January 2021, despite having twice the incidence.
For Berenguer, these results allow to glimpse with some optimism the evolution of pandemic in the coming weeks.
He has appealed to the responsibility of citizenship and social behavior to end the pandemic, since the use of the mask, the ventilation of the spaces and maintaining social distance to avoid the infections continues.
