Raise your hand if the first thing you want to do when you get home is take off your bra. This is probably because 64% of women are wearing the wrong bra size, according to an international study published in Women's Wear Daily, in 2014.

Knowing the exact size of the bra is very simple, according to Grace Andrade . The creator of lingerie brand Gals Bralettes says all you need is a tape measure and basic math skills.

The measurements should be taken without clothing or bra. First you have to measure the contour where the band of the bra is positioned. It is necessary to make sure that the tape is at the same level at each point of the contour, otherwise the measurement will be wrong.

Once the girth measurement in centimeters has been recorded, do the same for the bust measurement. The tape must be placed in the most prominent part of the chest.

The best way to take this measurement is by placing the knees and hands on the floor, since in this way all the tissue of the breast is taken into account. This is how life and style youtuber Caty assures it in the tutorial Bra Fitting 101

With the two measurements taken, the precise size of the crown can be calculated. From the bust measurement, subtract the band measurement. For example, if the result of this subtraction is between 1 and 2.5 cm, the cup size will be A, as indicated in the infographic:

Every so often, or if you've gained or lost weight, you need to do the calculation again and buy the right bras. Wearing the correct size will provide greater comfort and the clothes will look better over the bra (no chubby bands or cups moving because they are too loose).

Cup size and band size are related. In other words, a 36 D bra cup is not the same as a 32 D bra cup. Here the general and mistaken belief that a size D is equal to super large breasts is destroyed. The letters only indicate the difference between the contour of the base of the bust and the most prominent part of the bust.

If when doing the calculation, the result is an unusual size, for example a 32 D, it has not been done wrong. Only certain sizes have become popular commercially. Lingerie designer Jessie Ochoa shared the following chart that translates to business sizes:

Therefore, if the back has a circumference in cm between 68 and 72 cm, the band size is 32. If the bust measurement is between 88 and 90 cm, the cup will be D. In this example, the commercial size of the bra will be 32D.

Ochoa, owner of lingerie brand Polka Dot, recommends trying on your bra at the loosest setting. The other band settings should be used when the elastic becomes loose or enlarged through use.

For the exact sizes , you can always go to local experts who make bras to measure and to the client's taste. Gals Bralettes, Polka Dot and Frutha are some Ecuadorian brands that make this type of lingerie.
