Roll with Art. Freddy Mercury's cars

By: Willy Iron Allen

Although he was not passionate about driving his cars (he did not even have a driver's license) or about speed on wheels, he undoubtedly had a great predilection for the automobile as an object of beauty and comfort. He had a group of them, the ones he enjoyed on his trips to concerts and outings.

Perhaps the best proof of Freddy Mercury's affection for automobiles is the song I'm in love of a car, included on the B side of the 1975 single Bohemian Rhapsody. And it is that he really loved his cars, from the Rolls- Royce to the Mercedes-Benz, from the 1950s Studebaker with which he took photos, to the 1981 Range-Rover, which transformed its bodywork and made a convertible with the Swiss company Monte Verde.

However, the most spectacular car for fans of the famous Symphonic Rock star was the Lotus Evora S Freddie Mercury Edition, with which the British sports car manufacturer paid tribute to the leader of Queen on his 65th anniversary. The artist had already died, he only lived 45 years, and the car was made with the idea of auctioning it off to donate the money to an NGO dedicated to AIDS research.

But let me describe this car. Pearl white, the bodywork is crossed by a strip of red and yellow tones, a color combination of the clothes that Mercury often wore at his concerts. On the back of the car is the singer's signature and a small reproduction of his statue erected in Montreaux (Switzerland) along with the phrase Lover of life. Singer of songs. Inside, the yellow color of that iconic jacket that he used on the Magic Tour (1986) predominates, on the back of the seats, in two tones, there is the British flag with the Queen Group logo embroidered on the headrests.

Freddy Mercury, whose real name was Farrokh Bulsara, was born in 1946 in Stone Town, Zanzibar (Moluccas Islands, in the Indian Ocean), a former British protectorate that now belongs to Tanzania, and died of bronchopneumonia complicated by AIDS, in London, United Kingdom, in 1991. He was a musician, singer, composer, producer, pianist and graphic designer, of Persian and Indian origin, with British nationality.

He today is considered the best rock singer of all time. Fame never left him because of his charisma and his eccentricities, he was always very loved by his fans and even after his death, paradoxically, his popularity grew. The Queen Group with Freddy Mercury sold 32.5 million albums in the United States, of them, more than half after the death of the leader of the rock band.
