The sport of Talavera de la Reina is in luck. The athletes of the Ciudad de la Cerámica have been able to resume activity in the facilities of the municipal sports court after the rehabilitation that has been carried out with an investment of close to 300,000 euros.
Some athletics clubs in the city, such as UDAT or 26 Millas, or the triathlete Fernando Alarza have returned to the tartan to practice their sport and take the pulse of training.
The relevant impact tests have already been carried out and we are waiting for technicians from the Athletics Federation to verify the result of the work on the track and validate the approval of the sports facility. An accreditation that is the guarantee for Talavera to once again host major sporting events, both regional and national, after around 10 years without doing so.
Regarding the performance of the works, some finishes are also missing, such as the replacement of the grass inside the track, an action that will be carried out according to the Environment regulations.
This was announced during the visit in which the mayoress of Talavera, Tita García Élez, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports for Equality, Sergio Gutiérrez; and of Promotion and Planning of Talavera Ferial, Roberto Gallegos.
"Now we do have a track that is up to the standards of what the Talaveras deserve", celebrated the Councilor for Sports, who explained that once it was technically possible, they have contacted the clubs and athletes to put to your knowledge that the facility is open again.
The mayor has asserted that he is "very happy with the reopening of the athletics track"; However, he recalled that the work began a year and a half ago, although when the current government team came to management, in June 2019, it detected that "the project that was underway did not comply with the relevant approval and did not It was the track that the athletes of the city should have”.

For this reason, Gutiérrez has stated that, "since the expectations set were not met, and after a decade without major athletic competitions, the government team set itself the goal of recovering the homologation." To do so, he recalled that it was necessary to modify the project and make an "extra economic effort".
Fernando Alarza, for his part, has described as "superpositive" the fact that they can resume the activities related to athletics, which also perfectly complements the education and training in other multidisciplinary disciplines such as yours: triathlon, and which also requires this track.
The reopening of the athletics track, he continued, "will be a plus for our training sessions, being able to train in conditions that we will hardly find in other places." "I have always said that if Talavera is my favorite place to train, this gives even more strength to that theory. There are few places as good for my sport as Talavera", the Olympic triathlete underlined.
On his side, the president of the Unión Deportiva Atlética Talavera (UDAT) club, Juan Montejo, has shown his "illusion" for the return of activity and the reality that has already been done so that athletes do not have to to travel to train or achieve minimum marks for the competition.
In the same way, the president of 26 Millas Matical, David Rodríguez, has indicated that it was “more than necessary after so many months”, something that he has said “it is appreciated to have it back”. In the coming days, the rest of the clubs and athletes who regularly use this facility will be incorporated.
